Blog #4 - Calligramme

Artist Statement
This week I worked on creating a personal Calligramme. A Calligramme is a set of words arranged into various images. This project was created based off a letter I wrote to my future self 20 years from now. For this Calligramme I was inspired by my love for travel and creativity. I have set goals for myself both currently and in the future that involve stepping out of my comfort zone and traveling the world, as well as starting a career where I get to harness my creative abilities. Today, I want to learn more about photography and explore different hobbies. In the future, I hope I can find a job that I love that allows me to travel and be creative. To create this project, I used the pen tool, area type tool, and type on a path tool. This project allowed me to experiment with different tools on Illustrator and further grow my knowledge on the platform.

To my future self,

As of today, you are a 20-year-old at the University of Tampa studying marketing and advertising. You are involved in Delta Gamma, DECA, and want to get more involved in AMA before you graduate. Currently you enjoy finding new music, experimenting with new hobbies, and spending time outdoors. You love to challenge yourself and try new crafts such as using watercolors, learning to crochet, and teaching yourself the ins and outs of adobe platforms. Your next goal for yourself is to learn more about photography and videography.

Recently you got your first internship at a marketing agency, and you are so excited to get started. I hope you were able to take away valuable lessons from your previous jobs and are thriving in a career where you get to be creative, travel, and meet some awesome people. You are also starting to plan your trip for after graduation. You want to travel through Europe before you start working full-time. I hope you followed your plan and had a memorable trip across Europe.

I am interested to see where you ended up living because as of right now you have absolutely no clue. You love Florida, but don’t see it being your forever home. I hope you settled down somewhere where you can venture outdoors and be out by nature. I would love to live in a cute little town and have family close by. I can’t wait to see what you decide and I’m sure it is great.

In 20 years, I hope many things for you. I hope you have a job you love and a cozy home. I hope you have lots of supportive friends and some fun new hobbies. I hope you have begun to travel the world and have stepped out of your comfort zone. Most importantly, I hope you are happy and appreciate where you are at in life in this very moment. I cannot wait to see all the things you accomplish in the next 20 years.

with love,

Hailey
